Robert Hamer, dolazi iz Poljske, i najomiljenija riba mu je bucov. Hvatao ga je na razne varke, dok nije naišao na izradu svojega, koji mu se pokazao najboljim za lov onih velikih, usamljenih bucova.

BIG ASP
In my next article, I want to describe a new, quite revolutionary, method of fishing for asp. In spite of the fact that this method was created especially for the biggest asp, with the passing of time, it turned out that it is also effective for fish of different size. Despite this, I consider that it is the best method for the specimens of this species.
I have been fishing for asp over 30 years, and like most of the anglers who came into contact with this species, I had quite established opinion about its habits. My knowledge has been enriched over the years of fishing, but in spite of this, I have caught big fish only by sheer coincidence. I just acknowledged that big fish are so few, and they are so cautious that there is a little chance to increase the number of specimens being caught.
Now I know that I was wrong.
Everything began in 2000 when I was fishing in one of my fishing grounds in the Vistula. In this place water overflows a sunken fortification made of stones (it is a so-called overflow), and there is also a bank reinforcement made of stones at the river bank. In the place where the sunken fortification joins the bank reinforcement there are long whirlpools with a backward current. Because behind the sunken fortification the water runs fast, this place is the only oasis of quite calm water. It is a well-known fact that on the borderline between fast and slow currents asp prey. I decided to try my luck in spite of the fact that there were not active fish noticeable at the surface. The result of those attempts was quite shocking for me. Two fish, after unnoticeable bites, just swam away with the bait. This was strange because such things practically do not happen, even when I use very thin fishing lines. After this experience, I decided to give more attention to this place.
During the next fishing trips, quite frequently, repeated itself the following situation: I run the bait slantwise across the current, and when the bait is close to me, I see a huge whirl on the surface. There were not characteristic splashes of water, so I was not sure whether the fish were asp. I started analysing this situation, and I came to the following conclusions. The distance from the river bank suggests that the fish which attack the bait stay at the bottom of the river – at the base of the bank reinforcement made of stones. When the fish aim the target, they start swimming toward the bait nearly vertically upward. The fact that I failed to hook even a single fish is probably caused by the proximity of the river bank and the distance from the surface of the water - and most of the predatory fish which live at the bottom feel unsafe at the surface. I decided to change the tactics. In order to give the fish more time to take the bait, I applied the following operation: I cast the bait upstream so it could get in front of me at a short distance from the base of the bank reinforcement. Next, I started to retrieve the bait toward the surface in such a way that it swam above the lurking fish. I did not have to wait long for the results: several powerful bites and several hooked fish. To my surprise, it was asp that landed ashore, sizeable asp.
Then, I reached the first very important conclusion: asp prey not only at the surface. Initially, I thought that these are arguably rare cases. Today, I know that such ways of preying are at least half of their activity. For bigger fish this way of preying is the norm, and preying at the surface is only incidental.
Next interesting finding concerned the effectiveness of baits. At the very beginning, it turned out that typical - light and small baits are not suitable for fishing at the bottom. In my fishing ground the water flows too fast, and there is too deep to get to the bottom using such baits. This forced me to use the baits which are not considered as typical lures for asp. I started with soft baits: pearl twisters, 12 cm long, with jigheads weighing 28 grams. They turned out to be quite good, and I caught a good many of fish using them. I could not resist the temptation of testing other baits. Asp attacked them firmly and powerfully; the fish were not fussy like during the fishing at the surface. I used rippers and cicadas, systematically increasing their size. I managed to catch 3 asp using soft baits 16 cm long! I also experimented with colours, and I got the impression that colours do not matter.
In the course of time, the number of fish that I was able to catch decreased; this was the sign that my fishing ground was overfished because part of the fish that I had caught and released downstream did not return to the bend of the river, where my fishing ground was, and the rest of the fish became more cautious. I decided to try my luck further away from the bank.
Admittedly, in this place the water flows very fast, but on the surface of the water were visible numerous streams of the water reflected off the bottom - strewn with stones. It turned out that the whole surroundings are inhabited by asp. The fish were lurking behind the stones or in the places with calmer water – where the current slowed down. It was a very difficult place to fish in because the current was strong, and numerous obstacles on the bottom caused losses in my baits. In the course of time, I managed to work out an effective technique of fishing, for this technique I modified my baits.
In order to keep the baits close to the bottom, I added to the jighead a lip made of metal, something similar to the lips that are in crankbaits. Thanks to this solution, the bait did not surface too quickly in the rapid current. The presentation of the bait was as follow: I performed a long cast upstream to my post. From the beginning, I kept the fishing line tight in order to feel the moment when the bait touches the bottom. It was perfect when the bait got to the bottom in front of my position. Then, I raised the bait from the bottom as high as it was allowed by the length of a fishing rod and by the distance from the bait. Next, keeping the bait on the tight fishing line and retrieving (eliminating) the slack of the fishing line I was waiting for the subsequent contact with the bottom. I repeated this action until the bait was at the river bank. The trajectory of the bait resembled the teeth of the saw blade, the blade that was arched.
The asp attacked when the bait swam toward the surface. Today it is one of my best tricks for asp, and it superbly provokes especially big fish. Probably, my first experiences will surprise many anglers who fish for asp at the surface and use typical baits, and they will ponder over to what extent this technique is possible. Now we get to the important point: in order to fish successfully for asp at the bottom, one has to believe that this method is effective.
This is possible when one understands the nature of big asp. Small and average size fish, depending on the season of the year, gather together into schools, or they prey on their own in areas which abound in bleak or other small fish. This rule does not apply to big and old fish. The reason is quite prosaic. The fish which in one point in their lives gain weight, a considerable weight, would have negative energy balance if they preyed all day long on tiny fish. Contrary to the opinion of some anglers, asp are not super effective hunters. They are able to eat their fill only during the spawning seasons of the fish on which they prey. Out of those periods, they have to chase after small fish all day long before they manage to catch several fish. A lot depends on the availability of food. There are lean years and years of plenty. Big fish cannot afford such fluctuations because unless they stock up with sufficient energy, they will lose their effectiveness. This, arguably, is the reason why the biggest specimens live and prey alone, and when they swim to the places of a high concentration of small fish, then they stay at the edge of such a section. They prey on definitely bigger fish like chub, barbell, common nase, or zarte – that is the species of rapids.
They also change the tactic. Most frequently, they wait in ambush for a passing by prey. Only on short distances they chase their quarry, and they seldom attack fish at the surface. Most frequently, preying at the surface happens in the places where asp are not bolted away by anglers and in places abound with prey. Repeatedly I watched such situations by dawn and after sunset – when bleak stuffed themselves with insects. Quite frequently, the attacks are performed without characteristic splashes of water. Most frequently, they start from the bottom toward the surface with open mouths, and they perform a sudden turn, trying to swallow one or several fish. In their later habits they do not lose all the traits that were developed in their youth. It is a pretty quick movement that provokes them to attack; otherwise, they would have been caught accidentally by the anglers who fish for catfish, pike, and zander. Because this does not happen, the conclusion is that slow retrieving, dragging along the bottom, jumping (effective for zander), or other practices with a bait simply do not work.
Except for the above mentioned method of quick retrieving the bait from the bottom toward the surface, I discovered another interesting trick. When I fish in the place full of asp, and I do not have a bite, then I modify the presentation of the bait. After a long cast, I retrieve the lure at medium speed just over the bottom or in midwater. When the bait is close to the place where I expect the presence of the predator, I stop retrieving the fishing line for a couple of seconds. Then, the current carries the bait away, and I only eliminate the slack of the fishing line by raising the tip of the fishing rod. Next, I continue retrieving. I repeat these stopovers in every promising place. While an indolent fish ignores swimming lures, it has a rush of adrenaline when the potential prey stops near its post. Arguably, it prepares itself to attack, and when a potential quarry swims away, the predator is additionally provoked. This trick I recommend also while fishing at the surface. This can perform marvels with reluctant fish. Usually, when I fish from the boat, I anchor in the vicinity of rapid current and calm water. I retrieve the bait across: quickly in calm water, but I slow down when the lure enters the rapids, or I stop retrieving and keep the bait on a tight fishing line in the strong current – the bait is the most frequently attacked when it freely swims off in a sweep. The hazard of this method is as follow: when the fish swims up to the bait, and the bait does not react by escaping, then the asp can retreat because the whole situation seems to be unnatural. Therefore, I suggest not to exaggerate with pauses in retrieving – 3 or 5 seconds is enough.
Over the subsequent years, based on the experience, I began to develop the method of fishing for asp at the bottom. New places and situations enriched my knowledge. Because the production of new lures and the modification of the existing lures are my passions like fishing, I was intrigued by one question: to what extent my baits are effective. When I was fishing at the surface, I was able to check this pretty quickly by presenting the bait to the active fish. Things are much more complicated while fishing at the bottom. Lack of bites may be caused by the absence or a decline in activity of predators. Therefore, it took me several years before I finally understood that, with age, asp from the demanding fish do not turn into uncritical creatures that attack everything. There are exceptions to this rule, and one may fish successfully if one is lucky enough and finds oneself in the right place and at the right time. I owe my first successes to the excellent fishing ground, where I caught a dozen or so big fish, but this situation distorted my conclusions. I decided to return to my work that I had begun many years ago, the work on a new soft bait for asp, a bait that would better imitate a real fish - better than all the lures already created.
After the several subsequent years of attempts, in 2006, the prototype was ready. The first test was like a proverbial bolt out of the blue. I was fishing together with my friend in the shallows in the middle of the river; behind the shallows there was a deep hollow created by the current. My friend was fishing at the surface, and I was trying at the bottom. Unfortunately, a 25-minute-period of fishing with the use of a twister was in vain. I decided to try my new bait named RH12. It was 12 cm long and 28 grams heavy. It looked like a big bleak, and more importantly, it swam identically like a fish. The most important for me was the fact that the number of vibrations of the bait had to be adjusted to the speed with which the bait swam. It is a common knowledge that most of the lures like rippers have too slow tail action. They look like a man walking with the speed of 40 kilometres per hour. While pike and zander seem not to care about, with asp it is a big problem – this is evident from the poor effectiveness of these baits. I had the chance to become convinced how important this is when I performed the 7th cast. My new bait was attacked by a big asp. Evidently, the fish was shocked by the fact that somebody outsmarted it because it speeded downstream taking 80 metres of fishing line away. We were forced to swim after the fish. Unfortunately, after a long tow and as a result of my mistake - I lost the fish.
The next fishing trip was a real feast. We got to the place full of asp, the place where an unknown angler had been fishing for several hours. Because at the surface the bleak were attacked by small and medium size asp, we started to fish using the surface lures. To our surprise, the fish were completely uninterested. Clearly, the lures were unsuitable because the fish swam after them all the way to the bank, and then they returned to the middle of the river. When we tried out all of our lures, I decided to use “my bleak” – RH12. I knew that I might succeed if there were some lurking fish at the bottom because I could not count on the fish that were hunting at the surface.
During a dozen or so minutes, I had between ten and twenty delicate strikes. For a long time, I was not sure whether those strikes were bites of fish or not. It looked more like delicate pinches of zander. I realized that the hook is wrongly situated in the bait because the stipulation of successful hooking of a fish was that the fish had to swallow the bait deeply, but only during the periods of intensive preying asp swallow the bait deeply. That day I could not count on intensive preying; therefore, I decided to try out a smaller prototype of my bait – bleak named RH8, which I had constructed earlier. The result was immediate. Till the evening, we had dozens of bites, and sixteen beautiful fish landed ashore. That trip compensated me for several years spent on experimenting and creating a new lure.
I gave my new baits to my colleagues from all over Poland to test them in their fishing grounds. Everybody agreed that the bait is effective, but the hook is wrongly situated in the bait because it is difficult to hook a fish, and many fish got unhooked during the tow. I became painfully aware of this when I was fishing as a guest in one of the best fishing grounds in Poland. There are really big fish, but they are difficult to catch. I had several fantastic bites, and one fish painfully tested my physical fitness. I observed there another interesting thing. In this fishing ground water is much more transparent than in the Vistula. It turned out that in such conditions the eyesight of asp begins to play an important role. Variants of colour like green fluo and so on, were totally ineffective. The fish attacked the baits which were silver and pearl. During that trip I realized that the hook should be different, and it should be placed in the bait in a different way. Instead of a single hook placed in the dorsal position, I decided to apply a treble hook situated under the belly. This solution was like hitting the nail on the head. Now unhooked bites stay within the normal range, and the fish are better kept on a solid treble hook.
With the passing of time, it turned out that the bait is also good for other species, and they attack the bait in spite of the fact that the presentation of it is not specifically adjusted to those species. I am sure that my new method of fishing for asp and the bait that was created for this purpose will begin a series of fantastic catches of this species. I believe that this method will be also effective for fishing for asp that is the most difficult to catch – from the stagnant water. During the next fishing season, I plan to try a trolling method in several reservoirs (artificial lakes) where asp is caught sporadically at the surface; thanks this asp reach advanced years there. Such fishing grounds hide the biggest fish. Patient fishing in different water strata will certainly give the anticipated results. Next important information is that I caught 90 percent of the biggest asp more or less at one hour before the sunset. Maybe it is only the characteristic of my fishing ground, but it is worth noting down such things as it helps to establish certain regularities.
Now, I am going to say a few words about the equipment. Because while fishing at the bottom I use quite big and heavy lures, I use the tackle that allows me to cast far, control the bait, and give me enough power to tow a huge asp. My fishing tackle consists of a one-piece fishing rod - length 2.1 m, cast weight up to 1.5 oz (42,5 g), and a braided line - strength 15 lb.
Finally, I have one important remark. One has to be conscious that in many fishing grounds the population of asp is not numerous. If they do not have good conditions or are being killed on a large scale (because pike and zander had already been eaten), one cannot expect bewildering successes. And no miraculous method will help. Probably, many anglers will quickly be put off, and they will return to a traditional way of fishing for asp. Also in fishing grounds that are full of asp the success does not have to come quickly. This is because we talk about the biggest specimens. The only thing that one needs to have is patience, and one has to fish consistently. I assure that the first asp that is caught with the use of this method will restore the belief that next successes will follow soon. It is worth to give up small and medium-size fish in order to catch such a specimen like the one I caught in the autumn 2008. To be honest, I count on even bigger specimens, which I wish all the anglers who are mad about asp.

Dobio sam ilustraciju za model RH85, budući da je to plastični model, bez kljuna, postoji mogućnost kačenja kopče ili od naprijed, ili iznad glave. Trokake se također mogu staviti ili iza, ili naprijed, preporuča se jedna trokuka, ovisno koja kombinacije trokuke se stavi, tako je i drugačiji rad varalice.

Meni je 2011-ka definitivni favorit. Kad odemo na "hot spot" biće ti sve jasno :glasses9:. A bilo mi glupo da poručim samo tu varalicu u 10 primeraka pa sam zato poručio i ostalih modela - eto tako da se nadje :icon_biggrin:.

Danas tokom probe Antaresa 3m 15-40 prvi put sam isprobao i RH85 varku.
Varalica je ludilo! Vredi svaki evrić!
Ne radi ni kao glavinjara ni kao cikada. A ima neke njihove osobine.
Jako se lepo cima i prilikom propadanja ponire i leluja!
Izuzetno se daleko izbacuje, ne mrsi se.
Na žalost nisam je upisao .. ali danas je bila samo ozbilnija proba Antaresa ( poneo sam punu kutiju koječega, pa je sve to trebalo izbaati!) :icon_thumleft: :icon_salut:

Naravno, RH85 i RH 2011 su mi favoriti. Znam za dečka koji je napeglao već desetine bajkoša na RH varalice, a ja sam mu ih pribavio prije više od mj dana

Baš sam vidio prije koji tjedan na jednom mjestu na Dunavu,Bolen natjeruje ogromna jata Crvenperki.Tamo taj Ripper bi morao raditi.Zna taj Robert Hamer šta radi,dobro je on proučio Bolene i napravio varalicu za svaku situaciju za bolena.

Za sada sam dobivao na sve osim na ovog kao popera za koji stavljam video budući da još nije riba gore. Ovih dana očekujem uzorak novog modela koji je na testiranju, gume naravno. RH lures, definitivno među top mamcima za navedenu ribu.

Danas sam imao taku gutačinu do ždrijela na malog RH2011 8cm da to izgledalo kaos. Naravno da smo htjeli snimiti, ali kolega i ja se uzj.b.li i jedno 600puta stisnuli snimi stani dugme, a od sunca ništa nismo vidjeli. Sve u svemu, sve više mi ova varka spada u vrh za jednu vrstu varaličarenja. :icon_thumright:

Jutros 9:1 za RH gumicu. 6 Milan, ja 4.
Onaj jedan je došao meni na glavinjaru draškovu, sebile oblik.
Komadi sitniji 300gr 2 komada, pa onda postepeno do 1.5 kg bez merenja sve pušteno da raste!
Ostao sam bez jedne najmanje gume. :BangHead:

Za sve ljubitelje bolena, stigao je i novi uradak RH lures. Naime, radi se o modelu pod imenom RH2013. Najnoviji model 2013 je zapravo nasljednik 2011. Osim novijeg i atraktivnijeg izgleda, ova uklija radi malo sporije i prirodnije. Nakon izmjena finesa u zakačkama, ovaj model radi finije, i djeluje znatno prirodno u vodi (meni je i stari model pun pogodak).
Ono što smatram kao još veću prednost u odnosu na stariji model, jest da ovaj model što ima kud i kamo sporiji radi, znatno će pomoći u varaličarenju i smuđa i soma. :icon_thumright:

Hehe..šteta.Ja sam zadnji put naručio one najveće RH2102.Raubaju ogromni bucovi ali dosta daleko i nemogu dobaciti do njih pa ću probati sa ovima težim 12-cama.Možeš misliti koliko su daleko kada ne mogu dobaciti oloveka sa speedmasterom i još gore 0,08 whiplash blaze..a ogromni su usereš se kada zaraubaju
Hehe, imao sam slično iskustvo negdje prije, no uz krajnje napore sam bacao Oloveka, i napeglao se već spomenutih preko 100 kusur komada :icon_biggrin:

Nakon kratkog razgovora sa Robertom, ovih dana će mi napraviti poseban model, da isprobam. Naime, bit će to kombinacija novog RH2013 u dužini tijela 10cm, ali sa repom modela koji se više ne proizvodi: Ripper River, dok će rep biti od tijela dužine 12cm. Prijedlog je bio upravo zbog šire i jače vibre, ujedno i veći mamac za hladne dane koji nam dolaze.
